New York Fashion Week is always an exciting, inspiring, and hunger-inducing eight days of non-stop action here in the city! People are dressed to the nines, and it is amazing to be invited to incredible shows, like Tadashi Shoji, and get a first glance at the upcoming trends for Spring/Summer 2017.
Tadashi is known for his beautiful, whimsical, ethereal aesthetic, that is infused into each collection. He has a signature appeal and desirable consistency, but at the same time he manages to come out with something fresh each season. Spring/Summer 2017 Runway show was no exception!
“It’s about rising up from earth, and leaving it all behind… and turning into something beautiful out there,” said Tadashi Shoji, backstage before his Spring show. Such a lovely sentiment about strength, moving forward and seeing all the wonderful, pretty things that surround us in our day to day lives! Makes me think of transforming into a butterfly!
There were beautiful lace dresses in stunning colors and cuts, feathery frocks, and there’s no forgetting that perfect closing piece – with a billowing cape that sashayed it’s way down the runway in utter perfection, featuring a one of a kind hand embroidered bodice that twinkled and shined. Swoon!
After the show we had the tremendous pleasure of being invited to attend a dinner with Mr. Shoji, the man behind the magic, at Hunt and Fish Club. It was the perfect end to a perfect evening! Entering the restaurant almost felt like stepping aboard The Titanic, with a classy, old-school vibe, and waiters wearing penguin coats! I absolutely loved it!
We were escorted through the restaurant, downstairs into a private room — so it was delightful to get a mini tour along the way, and a feel for the place! I definitely would love to go back. Not sure anything could top this night, though!
Truth be told, compared to some other NYFW events and “after parties” I have attended, this was a real treat and a breath of fresh air. The room was filled with kind, classy, well-dressed men and women. Tadashi and his closest friends were there at the tables, catching up and enjoying the company of one another. The ambiance at dinner shared that same pleasant, ethereal calmness that was prevalent in the show.
While the vibe was quite elegant, instead of having a formal, sit-down dinner the food was served buffet style, which made everything a bit more fun and friendly! We indulged in succulent steak, perfectly seasoned salmon, classic penne pasta with tomato sauce, and so many other delightful bites, it’s hard to remember! There is certainly no forgetting dessert, though, which was a tremendous mountain of fresh fruit and mini cupcakes (my favorite!).
It was such a magical night and an honor to be invited to spend the evening with Tadashi Shoji and the Rustan’s group, first with the unveiling of his breathtaking collection, followed up by an unforgettable dinner in celebration of the designer’s 25th anniversary.
