Model Eats Manhattan
When your’re on that health kick, Cafe Henrie is the place to be!
With Fashion Week recently behind us, Cafe Henrie was a prominent fixture on the scene, who wouldn’t fall in love with its retro pink and blue tables, colorful, tasty food and the fact that you can buy its very own brand of panties! It’s definitely one of our “Must check out” spots.
We ended up going for lunch on a weekday because quite honestly we had spotted it on Instagram and wanted to sample the pintrest worthy food (don’t judge us). The dining room was fairly quiet when we arrived with many people silently working on laptops, creating a relaxed vibe, which was perfect for us to sit and enjoy a lengthy lunch. The cliental being young and very “Lower East Side” for those of you who don’t get that reference think, Dan Humphry from Gossip Girl.
I tried the green matcha latte because you know, when your’re in a hipster diner it seems to be the “it” thing to order. It was good as far as my knowledge of matcha lattes are concerned (which is zero as this was my first!) maybe would have stuck with a good old fashioned cup of tea next time!
The food which came out was stunning.. “The Pink Bowl” – lamb and beef meatballs, beets, brown rice, pomegranate , kale and sumac was actually really yummy especially for healthy food. The “Chicken Coconut Bowl” would have been FANTASTIC if we would have realized that you had to add the tumeric coconut broth into the bowl – DOH!
We gave the Acai Bowl (chia, fruit, fresh coconut and ancient grains) a try, which the more of it we ate, the more it grew on us. The minestrone soup we ordered was a bit lacking and probably wouldn’t order again on a return visit. The real show stealer falls on the deceivingly simple “Egg Sandwich” potato, caper mayo, fennel pickle, hard boiled egg and a brioche bun – TRUST ME on this one, really bloody good!
I think its the perfect spot to go if you have some time on your hands, the service is a bit laid back and left us wondering what they were doing back there at times. Take the girlies for brunch and have a Bloody Mary or two, they were delicious and packed a boozy punch to our meal!
