Hiraya
It’s been a long time since I’ve had the pleasure of a full pledged Philippine style riced] bowl for Breakfast. Growing up “Tapsilog” which translates to crisp dried beef, garlic rice and fried egg was my go to choice. It did not really matter whether it was a late night meal after a night out or an early breakfast meal after swimming but this was always my bowl of choice. Thankfully I am here in DC for a few days and that Hiraya is now open serving breakfast daily. Chef Paolo Dungca’s brick and mortar spot serves a full cafe and breakfast style menu daily.
I was excited on my way to the restaurant this morning and arrived extra hungry for breakfast. It was nice to see the place for the first time all ready for service. I started with a cup of pandan tea to prepare my appetite for the meal ahead. Tapsilog was served and the rice bowl was everything I expected, full of flavor and goodness. Black truffle ensaymada was for dessert and voila, I could have not asked for a better start to my day.
A side trip to the Museum of Spy is part of our next meal… #kulinaryatravels will be back for more next week…
