Soccer has grown immensely here in the USA over the past 20 years, and it’s amazing to see the global popularity of the beautiful game come full circle here in Miami. The arrival of Lionel Messi has raised the bar for Major League Soccer and expanded its reach to an entirely new global audience. Franchise owner David Beckham has come a long way from his bending free-kick days in Manchester, to becoming a global icon at Real Madrid, and now transitioning into a respected businessman here in Miami.
What this club has created is a true community of supporters and families who passionately and unconditionally love their football team. That spirit was proven yesterday in the pouring rain, as fans both young and old never once left their seats. What followed was an epic 10-goal thriller, with the home side emerging victorious 6-4. Luis Suárez delivered a sensational hat trick, while birthday celebrant Rodrigo De Paul capped off the evening with the final goal of the match.
The newly built stadium was truly a thing of beauty. The concourse level was designed exceptionally well, and the pitch remained in impressive condition despite the relentless rain throughout the evening. This was definitely an experience to remember, and I’m optimistic that our own local supporters group can one day match and rival the incredible passion shown by the Inter Miami CF faithful.
