Title: We Took It Back to the ’90s for Taste Collection’s First Anniversary!

By Cai Subijano

If you’ve ever been inside Taste Collection, you would know a few things about our favorite store in the Lower East Side: We love the color pink, and our staff is comprised of fun and vibrant women!

Here’s one more tidbit to add to that: We love the ’90s!

So what could be a more appropriate theme for our first year anniversary on our little corner of Orchard and Rivington than a pink, ’90s-themed, girl-power party?!

Last October 6, we decked out the store in fun Memphis design table cloth and streamers, played Party of Five on loop on our TV screen, and wore pink outfits with face gems, tattoo chokers, and snap bracelets. The customer with best pink outfit also took home a prize for the day!

Adding to the party mood was singer Martina Sandiego who sang our favorite jams by Lisa Loeb and No Doubt on acoustic guitar while graffiti artist JB Monedo did live art outside the store. We also held a raffle for customers every 30 minutes and gave away some cool prizes, like earrings and scented candles!

Of course, no party would be complete without drinks and grub: Soon-to-open restaurant next door Tsismis NYC prepared roasted beet chips with goat cheese and lemon, and Pigs in a Blanket made with local sausage and smoked bacon with hot honey. Yum!

We had free-flowing prosecco and vodka-lemonade punch all day, along with our favorite candy and snacks from our childhood: NERDS, Rollos, gummies, and cheese balls!

We ended the night with an extended set by our resident DJ and Tasty Gal DJ Tee Marie who kept the vibe alive with songs by Missy Elliott and TLC.

It was a throwback to end all throwbacks and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Until next year!
